The Water Monopoly Stand, Decorex
The stand at Decorex was designed by Nikki Atkinson, who is currently a very “hot” London based designer for whom we have worked previously. The Water Monopoly is a very well established, London based specialist retailer of vintage bathroom and WC elements and accessories. The flooring is kiln dried oak floorboards, tongue and grooved, all 220 mm width on the faces, 22 mm thick and in random lengths around 2.0 metres. The grade used was “rustic” which includes some character, ie knotches, strong figuring in the grain but crucially no sapwood. This allows for fuming to take place and to achieve an even base “greyed” colour undertone. The surface is then worked with hand tools to “bring up” the grain and, finally, a bespoke finish was applied which involved a mixture of special oils and colourings to give the unique look achieved. Literally, this floor cannot be found anywhere else and is individually selected for its colour, tone and textural appearance.
